Shine a light on coeliac disease & Childrens event day

On May 16 the TV tower in Tbilisi will be lighted in green to mark the international coeliac disease awareness day.
To mark International Coeliac Awareness Day, the Georgian National Coeliac Association (GNCA) will host special events for children in Georgia’s two major cities: Tbilisi and Batumi. The celebrations will include entertainment, appearances by popular cartoon characters, magic shows, balloons, and plenty of fun activities.
The events will be covered by mainstream media. In Tbilisi, the event will take place in Dighomi Forest; in Batumi, it will be held at a local kindergarten.

From 10 to 16 May, a series of events will take place, mostly online, organised by one of AOECS’s member associations. Activities include competitions, a photo and video contest, an online yoga course, and a dedicated hotline offering access to specialists, nutritionists, a psychologist, and support staff.
In addition to the online programme, several live events are planned. The week will begin with a Children’s Adventure Festival on Saturday, 10 May, in Mönchengladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia, featuring games for children and expert presentations for adults.

As part of the National Week of Coeliac Disease, the Italian Coeliac Association (AIC), together with its 21 regional branches, will run the campaign “Everyone at the table, all together: the days of the gluten-free menu” from 10 to 18 May 2025 across Italy.
The nine-day initiative coincides with International Coeliac Day on 16 May and aims to promote accurate information about coeliac disease and the gluten-free diet, helping to dispel common myths and misinformation surrounding the condition.

Influencer marks International Coeliac Day

On International Coeliac Day, the Dutch Coeliac Association (NCV) calls for greater understanding of the challenges faced by people following a gluten-free diet. To raise awareness, artist Max (Maks) Bolhuis has released a video on NPO3/YouTube highlighting that coeliac disease is a serious medical condition.
This week, the NCV also sent a letter to Members of Parliament addressing the additional costs of the gluten-free diet, urging the introduction of a fair compensation system.

Gluten-Free Cooking Workshop

As part of the International Coeliac Day celebrations, the Catalan Coeliac Association will host a gluten-free cooking workshop led by Beatriz Riverio, delegate of the Anoia region. Participants will learn how to prepare a variety of gluten-free savoury pastries and a traditional tuna empanada. The event is free of charge.
Gluten-Free Price Shock
To mark the International Coeliac Day, the Spanish Federation of Coeliac Associations (FACE) is drawing attention to the rising cost of gluten-free products and the lack of financial or food assistance available to those who need them.
This issue often goes unnoticed by the general public. To raise awareness, FACE took to the streets to ask non-coeliacs to guess the prices of gluten-free products.

64 Fundraising Challengers

As part of its May awareness campaign, Coeliac UK launched a fundraising initiative inviting supporters to take on personal challenges themed around the number 64 – reflecting the charity’s 64 years of work. Within just one week, 64 participants raised over £5,000 to support people with coeliac disease.
Challenges ranged from walking and cycling to baking gluten-free treats, all aiming to raise funds and awareness of the condition.

The programme includes: Cooking workshops for children and adults, health awareness events and public lectures, guided walks and social gatherings, participation in the AOECS Coeliac Virtual Run as well as media appearances and distribution of educational materials.
