Results from Coeliac Day Virtual Run - 2022
Each year we mark the international Coeliac Day to draw public attention to coeliac disease. Thys year AOECS organized a European charity event to support the work of getting gluten-free food to coeliacs affected by the war in Ukraine.
This was AOECS’s first attempt to organize a pan-European charity excersize contest. We are very pleased we managed to set participants from 16 different European countries in motion.
The youngest participant was 8 years old and the oldest was 71 years showing this was not only a true pan-European event but also a social happening spanning over generations.
These 133 brave participants put on their training shoes or dusted off their cycles from Maia (Portugal) in the west, to Lisichansk (Ukraine) in the east. From Tarxien (Malta) in the south to Kajaani (Finland) in the north. They all helped to raise 1 000 € which will help us purchase gluten-free food, and store both bought and donated food, and pack and ship this gluten-free food into Ukraine.
We deeply thank all valiant racers who ran, cycled or walked to show their support for all coeliacs in Europe. We hope you had fun and that we will see you again next year.
